Dash (Chris Haywood) would seem to have an idyllic life; married to the same woman for 40 years, grown children and grandchildren, and a home in a picturesque village. He doesn't choose to see it that way, however, and frustrates everyone around him with his negative attitude. His long suffering wife Dot (Wendy Hughes) hopes that their 40th wedding anniversary will be a happy occasion, but Dash is unimpressed that their daughter Kate (Susan Prior) and son-in-law Tim (Russell Dykstra) have organised for them to go on a mystery tour. Travelling on a train with a group of strangers is Dash's idea of torture, but his annoyance is increased significantly when the tour takes them to their home village of Greenhaven. During the tour, Dash is forced to see the effects that his years of pessimism have had on his life and his marriage, through having to re-examine the event that changed his attitude in the first place.
