Oscar® winners Cuba Gooding Jr and James Coburn co-star in this quirky comedy about a Florida dentist who is notified of an unexpected inheritance, but when he travels to Alaska to collect it, he discovers that he now owns a pack of sled dogs, which have close connections to his past. Ted Brooks (Cuba Gooding Jr) lives well in Miami, Florida, where his successful chain of dentist practices is based. A letter advising him that he is the heir to an inheritance from Alaska throws him for a loop, especially after he finds out he was adopted at birth, and the bequest is from his biological mother. When he arrives in Alaska, Ted discovers that not only has he inherited a log cabin, but also his mother's team of feisty Alaskan sled dogs, which are coveted by her neighbour, Thunder Jack (James Coburn), the local sled champion. Bewildered but up for an adventure, Ted decides to enter the team in the upcoming Arctic Challenge sled race, but the dogs don't make it easy for him. At the same time, Ted begins to look into his mother's past and why she gave him up, and is startled at what he finds.
