After a plane crash, a young therapist, Claire Summers (Anne Hathaway), is assigned by her mentor to counsel the flight's five survivors. When they begin to share their recollections of the incident their stories appear to be differing. Claire’s therapy reveals that some of the survivors say an explosion occurred. The airline disputes the claim and tries to cover the fatal mechanical failure from becoming public. As the story begins to unravel Claire’s patients begin to disappear. Whilst discovering her suspicions Claire becomes intrigued by Eric (Patrick Wilson), the most secretive of the survivors. A personal relationship between Claire and Eric evolves, despite her better professional judgment. As they become closer their relationship blossoms into a romance. Falling in love with a patient is the beginning of Claire’s problems as she suspects that Eric may hold all the answers and becomes determined to uncover the truth, no matter the consequences.
