Laura Linney and Gabriel Byrne star in this haunting drama, which was nominated for nine AFI® Awards which chronicles the tragic impact of the decision by a fisherman and his friends not to immediately report the discovery of a dead girl's body. A group of four friends, Stewart (Gabriel Byrne), Carl (John Howard), Rocco (Stelios Yiamakis) and Billy (Simon Stone), heading off for a fishing trip, are horrified when Stewart discovers the body of a dead indigenous girl in the river where they are setting up camp. As night is falling, they plan to alert the authorities the next day, but at dawn, Stewart sets off to fish. His return to camp sees the group agree without discussion to continue their getaway. On their return, they report the dead body, but are unprepared for the reaction to their callous behaviour. Stewart's wife Claire (Laura Linney), struggling to regroup within her marriage after running away from her family due to postnatal depression, is devastated at her husband's actions, and tries to make amends with the girl's family, who react angrily. Some of the wives support their husbands, but as Claire's outrage overflows, she finds herself alienated within her small community.
