The voices of Emily Mortimer and Christian Bale are featured in this Oscar®-nominated animated Japanese fantasy which follows the story of a young woman who is transformed into an old woman by a witch to stop a budding romance. An unassuming young woman named Sophie (Emily Mortimer) who works in a hat shop, attracts the attention of Howl (Christian Bale), an enigmatic wizard. His infatuation angers the evil Witch of the Waste (Lauren Bacall), who inflicts a terrible curse on Sophie in a jealous rage. Sophie is turned into an ancient crone (Jean Simmons), and runs away to find Howl's magical castle, where she tries to find a way to break the curse, but finds herself becoming caught up in a war developing between her country and a neighbouring nation, as her wizard puts himself and his powers at risk to serve his country.
