Jonathan Preest (Ryan Philippe), a man on a mission to find and kill his enemy, The Individual, exists in the bizarre and unreal world of Meanwhile City as well as his real life in modern day London. Preest wears a stark mask with black eyes as he prowls the dark streets searching for the man upon who he will revenge himself for the long ago death of a young girl. A young woman named Emilia (Eva Green) tries to protest against the religious fervour of Meanwhile City, risking her life in the process. Milo (Sam Riley) is grieving for a lost love, and trying to make sense of the world around him, while Peter (Bernard Hill), a church official, travels all over London in search of his missing son. The stories of these four individuals link through both realities as they all seek answers and resolutions on their personal quests, leading to dramatic culminations for each of them.
