Mickey is a top referee with the National Basketball Association who, due to unfortunate circumstances has to find time out of his busy schedule to travel to Paris to bury his father, whose final request was to be laid to rest with his Army buddies from World War II. Somehow the body is lost in transit, and Mickey, in a desperate search to find out what happened to his father, gets pushed around from one airline official to another till he meets Ellen. Though Mickey is initially argumentative with her, Ellen decides that she likes his sense of humour, he is taken with her, and after a few days together in Paris, they decide to marry. However, once they return to Mickey's home in the United States, things get awry and she is unsure that she has made the right decision as Mickey is the consummate bachelor and is highly focused on his Job which then leaves little time for Ellen.
